Well.... What a week we have had leading up to Christmas!
It started off with Getaway Totherock winning the Tanners Champagne British EBF Mares' "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle (EBF Mares' NH Novices' Hurdle) over 2m5f by 10 lengths at Ludlow on Wedneday 18th December.
Race analysis: K kept pouring it on after taking it up and decisively made it third time lucky under rules. The dual Irish point winner stepped up big time on her stable debut over C&D last month and does have plenty of scope.
We then went to Hereford on Thursday 19th December and had a DOUBLE!
Encounter A Giant won the Central Roofing Beginners' Chase over 3m1f very impressively by 8 lenghs under Alex Edwards in heavy ground.
Race analysis: is a dual point winner. He registered an RPR of 132 on his debut over regulation fences at Huntingdon 11 days beforehand, despite unseating his rider two out. The 7yo coped admirably with the heavy ground, jumped well in a contested lead, and won in taking fashion. He should develop into a decent handicapper.
Encounter A Giant was also the Racing Post 'Star Performer' of the day.
Billingsley won the 2m Cotswold Hereford Novices' Handicap Chase under a great ride from Liam Treadwell for James & Jean Potter & Dai Walters.
Race analysis: ran well for much of the journey before unseating his rider two out on his chasing debut at Bangor the previous month. He was dropping back in trip on his handicap debut. The 7yo got into a good jumping rhythm and, although tired on the heavy ground, ran out a brave winner. He should remain competitive once reassessed.
Seymour Sox went to Uttoxeter on the 20th December and ran in the 2m4f Paul James Knitwear Handicap Hurdle (Conditional Jockeys' And Amateur Riders' Race) (RE Series) and finished a close second under Bryan Carver. The ground was extremely heavy, so we are delighted with his performance in such bad conditions.
