Meet the Team



ALASTAIR RALPH - TRAINER

Born into a family steeped in the traditions of horses and horseracing, Alastair Ralph began his racing career when he left school working initially for Michael Scudamore. After this he moved to Ditcheat to work for the legendary National Hunt trainer Paul Nicholls, before moving on to ride out for the 2014 Grand National winning trainer Dr Richard Newland. Following his time spent with Dr Richard Newland, Alastair then moved to the Downton Estate in Shropshire where he served as Assistant Trainer to Henry Daly for 5 seasons. In addition, Alastair also ran his own yard of point to pointers which grew from strength to strength each season, in 2015, Alastair obtained his trainer's licence.

LIAM TREADWELL - ASSISTANT TRAIINER / JOCKEY

Liam began his career as an apprentice for Amanda Perrett straight after leaving school.  He went up north afterwards to continue his apprenticeship with Dandy Nicholls, riding 26 winners on the flat for him.  In 2004, he became conditional to Venetia Williams where he rode out his claim.  During his time with Venetia, he was also stable jockey for 2 seasons to Nick Gifford.  One of the many highlights of Liam's career was winning the Grand National on Mon Mome in 2009.  Liam has  just had a year away from racing and has returned with a vengence this September to take on the role as Assistant Trainer to Alastair, already having ridden a few winners for him.

CALLUM GRIFFITHS - HEAD LAD

Callum is from Carmarthen, Wales and born with a  love of horses and hunting, which he still loves to do. He studied at equine college near home, working through his BHS stages and took on work experience for local trainer Paul and Debbie Hamer where he then stayed for several years and fell in love with racing. He completed his level 2 in Racehorse Care and Management at the British Racing School and has spent a year in a vibrant flat yard before joining us and taking on the roll of head lad with his knowledgable, pro-active fun nature. 

GABBY TAYLOR-JONES - STABLE LASS

Gabby has grown up with ponies and doing pony club activities.  This is her first job in racing and she is based mainly on the yard and helps racing.  She's loving her first job in raacing and looks after the horses and yard with great care and attention.

HANNAH SITCH - STABLE LASS

Hannah has recently joined the team and is now our youngset member of staff.  She has come straight from the British Racing School in Newmarket having completed her Level 1 in Racehorse Care and Management and is now doing her Level 2 with us.  This is her first job in racing and she is managing well with all she has learnt from the BRS and settling in well to a life in the racing yard.

ADAM O'SHEA - STABLE LAD

Adam was born with racing in his blood coming from Ireland.  He began his racing career with Jim Culloty in Ireland straight from school.  He has just finished a 2 year stint with Kerry Lee as an amateur jockey and has settled well into life at Bind Farm with his diligent, fun attitude.

KITTY PRICE - STABLE LASS

Kitty first got into horses when she was 14 and after school continued with her love of horses where she completed her level 3 in Horse Management at Walford College before going onto the Northern Racing College, completing level 1 in Racehorse Care and Management. This is her first job in racing and she is working towards her level 2. Her yard skills and enthusiasm in caring for the horses are impeccable and she has fitted in brilliantly to our energetic team. 

FRANKIE ROWLES – WORK RIDER

Frankie’s passion for racing and thoroughbreds has led her to riding out for Alastair part-time whilst she works alongside her father whom is a fine art dealer in Ludlow.  She looks after her horses impeccably with the upmost attention to detail in their care and management.

VICKI WOOD - WORK RIDER

Vicki has worked in racing for 15 years now and previously held an amateur license.  Her love for racing, bubbly character and enthusiasm, along with her talent to work ride are a great asset to the yard.

EMMA FIELD - STABLE LASS

Emma joined our team in the summer and this is her first job in racing.  She comes from a pony club background and enjoys spending a day out on the hunting field.   She has re-trained a couple of ex-racehorses and spent time in the showing field, reaching HOYS in 2016.  She’s enjoying being part of the team and learning more about racing.

ALEX EDWARDS - AMATEUR JOCKEY

Alex has been in racing for 12 years and has ridden 200 winners on the flat, pointing and under rules as an amateur jockey, this year winning the Foxhunters at Cheltenham Festival. Last season he was National Champion Point to Point Gentleman rider and joint Champion Gentleman Amateur rider.  He rides out and schools the horses on a regular basis for us. With his experience and knowledge along side his cheerful nature, he is a joy to have in the yard.

BUNDLE PICKARD – SECRETARY

Bundle has worked in racing for 20 years, starting off as a stable lass for Richard Price before holding her own dual license for a few years.  She’s swapped training and riding out every day to help Alastair on the more administrative side of his growing business.

MARK EVANS - FARRIER

Mark & Liam Evan’s and their team at Black Dog Forge have been with Alastair Ralph since day one.  Experts at shoeing and plating racehorses, Mark alone having over 30 years’ experience in the field.  They pride themselves in offering a full compliment of farriery service.
